West Hill is Outstanding
West Hill has been rated Outstanding across the board by Ofsted inspectors who highlighted our ability to maintain the top level of achievement and personal development of our students over a long period of time.
We offer excellent personal and academic opportunities and, in the words of Ofsted “turn students lives around” to prepare them extremely well for their futures.
Ofsted awarded us Outstanding in all four key inspection areas of pupil achievement, quality of teaching, safety and behaviour of pupils and leadership and management. This led to an overall top rating by the authority in the last inspection in 2014, and our work continues to reflect this.
“All groups of students achieve outstandingly well during their time at the school, gaining qualifications in English, mathematics, science, art, religious education, vocational and functional skills and information and communication technology,” noted the report.
As an Outstanding school, we are currently exempt from regular, full Ofsted inspections - but we remain Outstanding and our ethos has not changed in any way. We continue to reiterate the key elements found by the inspection team.
“Teaching is outstanding and regularly challenges students to work hard and do their very best,” says the report.
The behaviour of our students was noted as being exemplary in and around the school and parents overwhelmingly agree that their children are both happy and safe.
School leaders “rigorously maintain the excellent teaching by providing high quality training and through their positive partnerships with the local authority and local schools,” the report adds.
“The rich range of subjects and topics makes a very positive contribution to students’ enjoyment of learning and their excellent progress. Student’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural developments is promoted extremely well.”
