Fox Grove plans on show
Our plans for a brand new purpose-built school in Leatherhead for students with Special Educational Needs have moved a step closer to fruition.
A public exhibition outlining the vision for Fox Grove has been held as part of the consultation process ahead of the submission of a formal planning application for the development on land at Therfield School.
The Fox Grove proposal would see a new all-through school for 152 students ranging in age from four to 19 and it will be built next to our current West Hill School as a partnership project.
The Department for Education has appointed Bowmer + Kirkland as the main contractor for the project which will also see a new sports hall for Therfield School as a result of the development.
Discussions have been held with Surrey County Council and Mole Valley District Council ahead of statutory investigation works at the site which will be used within a joint planning application.
Architects CPMG will be following a comprehensive set of design principles in the creation of Fox Grove so it is a place of sanctuary with a calm environment and low sensory stimulation. It will have the flexibility to adapt to the needs of the children and allow the sharing of facilities with West Hill School.
The new school will have a sense of space and connectivity to the outside, while offering a sustainable low energy approach to keep running costs low. Materials chosen will be light, welcoming and low-key to be both visually warm and timeless, sensitive to its woodland surroundings.
Fox Grove is a partnership project including the Department for Education, LIFT Partnership, Bowmer + Kirkland and Therfield School.
